Business Overview (FY2010)

 

-Turbo Technologies sales increased 31 percent primarily due to increased turbocharger sales to both light vehicle and commercial vehicle engine manufacturers partially offset by the negative impacts of foreign exchange. The Company expects increased volume to continue in 2011 as the Company benefits from new platform launches and continued strong diesel penetration rates in Western Europe.

-In Apr. 2010, the Company announced that it expects the number of new, turbocharged cars sold in the U.S. to grow from five percent today to as much as 25% in the next five years. This reflects impact of the new fuel economy standards announced by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Transportation. In 2010, the Company will be launching 15 new turbocharger technologies and boosting over 100 diesel and gasoline engines on passenger cars and trucks. (From a press release on April 2, 2010)

 

Contracts

 

-In 2008, the Company supplies the Variable Nozzle Turbine (VNT) Turbocharger to be equipped on the new Tata Safari and the Xenon. The introduction of VNT technology with Tata is the first time it has been used in the sport utility vehicle segment in India. (From press release on Feb 11, 2008)

-In 2008, the Company' turbocharging technologies are featured on 28 of the vehicles being launched at the 78th International Motor Show of Geneva in 2008. The models equipped with its gasoline turbocharger technology include the BMW X6 xDrive50i, the first twin-turbocharged 8-cylinder gasoline engine in the world with two turbochargers delivering 300kW (407 hp). On the diesel side, its turbocharging technology is helping Audi to deliver a 240 hp on the new A4 from a 3.0 liter engine while emitting only 188g/km of CO2 and is also enabling Kia to achieve an exceptional CO2 emissions level of 104g/km on the Kia Eco Cee'd with a 1.6 liter diesel engine. -In 2008, the Company was selected by Ford to develop turbochargers for its first introduction of EcoBoost technology on 2010 Lincoln MKS. (From a press release on Jul. 30, 2008)

-In 2009, the Company launched a turbocharger system for the new Jaguar XF 3.0L V6 Diesel to reduce fuel consumption by 12% and CO2 emissions by 10% compared to its predecessor. Divestitures

 

-In Oct. 2010, the Company announced that it has reached an agreement to sell its automotive on-board (AoB) sensor products business to Sensata Technologies, Inc. of Netherlands, for 140 million USD. The transaction is expected to close early in 2011. The Company's AoB sensor products include cam and crankshaft, transmission, vane, vehicle pressure, position and wheel speed sensors.
