Bearish demand hits car parts
Wednesday, 16 March 2016
Thailand’s exports of car parts are expected to see flat growth this year due to bearish global demand. Achana Limpaitoon, president of the Thai Auto-Parts Manufacturers Association, said car parts shipments were not likely to improve this year after plunging 3.69% last year to US$ 16.5 billion. Thai manufacturers faced a host of negative factors last year due to the weak global economy and foreign exchange fluctuations, she said, adding that most Asian countries such as Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are also facing the same situation. We are hopeful that car makers will produce more than 2 million units year. This will help boost demand for auto parts in the country, said Mrs. Achana.
